George Romero – Travel notes from the apocalypse.

An essay exploring the cinema and philosophy of one of America’s greatest horror filmmakers. Known to the general public for creating the zombie movie genre, George A. Romero was a forerunner in many aspects of a cinematography that ostensibly purported to be pure entertainment but instead concealed a very strong political and social language. Although his films recount a seemingly extraordinary reality, that of the living dead, they are immersed in contemporary American culture and society, indeed in many respects they are even prophetic with a critical gaze that goes so far as to condemn the evils of globalization, terrorism, and the overpowering of the weakest.Romero over time became a legend and his films have profoundly affected today’s pop culture, influencing video games, TV series, advertising, and comic books.

The book written by Danilo Arona, Lorenzo Ricciardi, Giovanni Aloisio, and Giuseppe Carradori tackles the entire narrative arc of Romero’s career, from his beginnings to his collaborations with Stephen King and Dario Argento to his latest works. Two mini-essays focus on the main theme of the American filmmaker’s career, zombie cinema: The Land of Zombies: The Imaginary, Official and Usurped, of George, by Danilo Arona, and Dawn of the Living Dead: The Birth of the Legend, by Lorenzo Ricciardi and Giovanni Aloisio.
Also inside the book is the original Zombie script in sequences.
Interviews with George Romero, Tom Savini, Ken Foree, Joe Pilato, and Lori Cardille.
Cover by Giorgio Finamore.
